Sermon Schedule—2 and 3 John: Together in the Truth

What unites us as a church? People come together for all sorts of reasons, such as ethnicity, socio-economic background, culture, or common interests. Christians, however, are bound by something far deeper and more enduring.

In 2 and 3 John, we hear about how it is the truth about Jesus Christ that binds believers together. Although they are the shortest books of the New Testament, 2 and 3 John are full of practical instruction for us. They reveal how Christians are to walk together in the truth by loving one another, as well as by guarding and growing the gospel.

These 2 books will highlight the the importance of the truth about Jesus Christ — His person and work. John also emphasises the inseparability of truth and love in the Christian life. This is lived out in Christian fellowship and hospitality in the local church. This also translates into partnerships between churches and supporting gospel workers.

This short sermon series aims to:

  • Exhort us to persevere in the truth concerning Christ

  • Grow our love for one another, especially in the areas of hospitality and seeking our mutual spiritual good

  • Encourage us to hold fast to the truth in love, and to love one another in the truth

  • Shape our understanding of gospel partnerships, particularly applied to church revitalisation and planting, as well as missions
