Church Picnic on 9 August 2022

On 9 August, National Day, we held our second church picnic of the year. In May this year, we held our first church picnic of 2022, and also the first in at least 2 years. It was a fun morning and many came down to get to know one another or play games together. We were blessed with good conversations, and also good food that people brought.

This time was no different!

We thank God for providing most of us a day of rest this public holiday. The weather was also great for a day outdoors -- with the sun out and without a threat of rain. It was encouraging to have the church intentionally gather and meet outside of the usual weekend services.

Food and games were the natural icebreakers and helped those at the picnic catch up with old friends, or meet new ones. Many people brought food not only for themselves, but also for others. Some brought their baked goods, while others brought generous portions of hawker foods. There was definitely plenty of sharing!

Some church members also took the chance to invite their friends and family members who did not attend GBC, or were not Christians. We are thankful that our visitors were willing to come join us. We pray for more opportunites to get to know them, and to share the love of Christ in both word and deed.

We hope to hold more of such picnics and casual socials in the future, so we encourage church members to watch out for announcements in future. At the same time, we definitely do not need to wait for such picnics to get to know the rest of the church. Here are some simple ways that we can continue to do so on a regular basis (or weekly even!):

  • Pray and trust God to bring people in your way when you attend the weekend services. Some of us may find it daunting to speak to people that are new to us. Others may love meeting people. But no matter what we feel like, we can all pray and entrust our conversations to God even before we arrive in church. And then we wait and see how God answers our prayers.

  • Speak to those around you at the service. Make use of the time before and after service to speak with those sitting around you. It could be introducing yourself to them, or it could be catching up, or, it could even be discussing the sermon.

  • Head to the Fellowship Hall after service on Sundays. Or, just stay in the sanctuary on Saturdays. Plan to stay for a while, even if it is just 5-10 minutes.

  • Join the monthly meal fellowship. Meals are a great way to break the ice and get to know others! Families, couples and individuals are all welcome to participate. For more information, contact Ryan Ang at ryanang.zr@gmail.com or sign up at gracebaptistchurch.sg/mealfellowship.
